How the math works

The calculator uses the official rates published by Meta, by recipient country and by message category. Each delivered message is charged once, by its category. The rate card in use has been effective since October 1, 2026.

  • Service is a free-form reply, with no approved template, within 24 hours of the customer's last message. Each phone number gets 1,000 free per month; Meta charges from the 1,001st on.
  • When a conversation starts from a Click to WhatsApp ad and you reply within 24 hours, a window of up to 7 days opens with no charge for marketing, utility, authentication or service messages.
  • Utility and authentication get cheaper by volume tier. In the US and Canada, the first tier goes up to 80,000 utility messages a month.
  • Accounts in Brazilian reais are for businesses billed in Brazil. Everyone else pays in US dollars, on the USD line of the same rate card.

What changed in October 2026

Meta went back to charging two kinds of message that were free: service replies, free since November 2024, and utility messages sent inside the 24-hour window, free since July 2025. In exchange, every phone number got 1,000 free service messages a month. Calculators with the old rate card still show service at zero cost.

Are service messages free?

Since October 1, 2026, only the first 1,000 of the month on each phone number. From the 1,001st on, Meta charges the country's service rate, which is US$ 0.0034 per message in the United States and Canada.

What is the ad window?

When someone reaches your business from a Click to WhatsApp ad, on the mobile app, and you reply within 24 hours, a window of up to 7 days opens in which marketing, utility, authentication and service messages are not charged.

Can I pay for the API in Brazilian reais?

Businesses billed in Brazil can have a BRL account since July 1, 2026, and eligible accounts must migrate by June 30, 2027. Outside that case, billing is in US dollars or in one of the other currencies Meta supports.

What does the calculator leave out?

The monthly fee of the platform you use to run the API, the taxes on your invoice, and Meta's own AI agent, which is charged by the amount of text it processes.
